What can a BAD prototype cost you?

What was taught and discussed this week at The Apparel Mentor Group Live Session taught by Mindy Martell?

In this week's live session the members and Mindy discussed where they were at with each of their projects.

Many of them are finally in the thick of getting prototypes made and selecting fabrics and sampling partners.

  • We discussed how it was best to be dual sourcing (or working with 2 factories) until you see who ends up having the best quality and price.

    • In these early stages, you will save a lot of time and headache if you do not put all your eggs in one basket.

  • Another thing we discussed was the weekly topic of finalizing a prototype before going into production and what does that mean for a proto to be final.

    • This is one of the most costly mistakes I see new entrepreneurs make. If you approve your prototype and move to production too early you could wind up with bad inventory and this can be the most expensive mistake you could make.

      It could cost you:

      1. all the $$ it took to pay for your inventory

      2. repeat customers because your product is not good ( maybe it doesn't fit well, or look well or is constructed poorly and doesn't last)

      3. and ultimately your business before it gets off the ground!

If you become a member of the Apparel Mentor you can learn these topics too and have a live discussion with your mentor too!

We hope to see you there!
